Same Excuse

Same excuse as usual, getting distracted left and right from updating my blog. I hate myself for it and I promise I will give myself ten whips for each week I go without blogging from now on.

The first act of my thesis is now practically 100% complete. I've begun animating the 3rd and final act of the film and all those that think i'm ahead need to remember I still have another 4 minutes or so to animate, I have my work cut out for me.

Orrick shorts are done, it's just a matter of dropping them off now.

I've been screwing around and loosing time for thesis making quick live-action shorts for fun. Judge them based on the idea that none required more than a single day of work haha. But they were fun to work on and I hope you like 'em. First is Are You Afraid of The Dark episode my brother shot and my cousin edited and I came up with the story concept:

The Tale Of Lucky Pete's Playground

Second, me and some friends rented a nice HD cam from SVA to record some live action shots for a certain thesis film. Well afterwards we wanted to get more use out of it so we did a Spanish Soap Opera, why not right? Enjoy!

El Perro

There's a third film we shot today with the HD camera, put more effort into it then this spanish soap opera, well a little more. Anyway I'll post that when i'm done editing that in the next two weeks or so.

Alright back to finished all this shit in time for the end of the semester, be back soon. I promise, or else I will inflict pain upon myself.

Flight Into Imagination in a Film Festival! And more

Yeah I know it's been a while, my usual excuse would be I've been busy and got distracted so I'm gonna go with that again.

But since my last post i've made a lot of progress and also just today acquired some really exciting news, A Flight Into Imagination has made its way into the "Short Attention Span Digital Video Festival"! and will be shown this coming Friday (Oct.30th) You can see the details here:

SASDVF

If anyone can make it please attend!

The second short being produced for the Orrick Law Firm is still in production, went much longer than expected but it also became much longer and intensive than originally planned. But I am 99% finished at this point, so close! And they seem to be very happy with the results. Here's a little sample of the Epic Mech that will be showing up in the short.

Thesis is on schedule once again, I completed the entire second segment of my thesis. That's 3 minutes that are completely inked, colored, composited and ready to go! I'm now animating the first segment and hope to finish that by winter break and then have the rest of my time to finish off the third and final segment of the film. So far very happy with the results.

Oh! And I have a new reel up, which can be seen here:

REEL

Also went back to interning at Augenblick, right now we are working on the "Ugly Americans" TV series. But earlier I had the chance to do inbetweening for the videogame "Dante's Inferno". The detail in the animation and the incredible compositing they are doing with this really makes it absolutely beautiful, so proud to have been able to work on this! Unfortunately I'm not allowed to show anything until the game is released but I assure you it will be worth the wait!

Anyway thats all for now, I'll be sure to update this on a more regular (Monthly) basis again from now on

Sick & Tired Opener and Swampass

So the Sick & Tired Opening animation is up on youtube, it can be seen here:

Sick & Tired

Also completed the documentary on my good friend Swampass, the documentary is split into three parts, you can find the first part here:

Swampass (look in the info of the video for links to the 2nd and 3rd part)

The 1st short for the Orrick Law Firm is 100% done. I'm about halfway done with the second short which will have a strong sci-fi theme to it; i've been having some fun with that.

I started putting together the video for my dog Cream but it is taking longer than expected, I wouldn't expect the video to be complete anytime soon. But in time it will be up and it will do her justice :).

I've done as much as I can with thesis until school starts again next week. I got a little past halfway the riot scene, originally I had planned to finish this by the end of summer but alot of things unfortunately got in the way of that and it did take longer than expected on top of that.

Moving back to the GW Saturday, packing my self up as we speak.

feel free to visit

Cream, Sick & Tired, Sloth, and Whale Rape

Unfortunately my dog "Cream" recently past away, we had been with her for over ten years and she had become a part of the family. I'm in the process of collecting all the videos I have of her to put something together to remember her by. If anyone is interested you can see more photos of her at my facebook photo album here: Cream's Photo Album

In other news I finished the opening animation to my Brother's Documentary "Sick & Tired of Being Sick & Tired" It was screened in front of an audience of 800 and seemingly got very good reactions. I will be putting that animation up in the near future as long as it is ok with my Brother and the other Director/Producer Harry.

Oh and the second to last webisode of Sloth is FINALLY UP! You can check it out here:
SLOTH

Lastly I made a video with a friend of mine just for shits and giggles, this may make you think lower of me but I think it's important for everyone to know the dangers of...

Whale Rape

Production on both the animation for the Orrick Law Firm and Thesis has continued as well. The first short of Orrick will be finished today and i'm at Shot 13 of the Second Scene of my Thesis(Keeping in mind i'm doing the second scene first then going back and doing the First Scene and lastly The Third Scene)

Post Otakon

Hey just got back from Otakon, was incredibly fun and chaotic as usual. Had a great time!

I cosplayed for the first time this year and figured why not go all out so me and my girlfriend Amanda did two costumes together. She is fully responsibly for the costume, I just paid my way and helped apply the makeup and wore it. However I did come up with the idea to be Manchu and her be Pika girl.

The workshop that I did with Mayshing went well, I pretty much winged it since I had never been a part of a panel/workshop before and had trouble really planning it out with mayshing since she was rather busy. But the crowd really seemed to enjoy it and took a lot out of it.

I also have tons of amazing footage from the expo and hope to put a video up on youtube within a week, i'll post again when it's up.

There are more pics from Otakon on my facebook page and certainly more to come in the near future so keep a look out.

Also the "drinking and drawing" animation is finally online, you can check it out here:
Drinking&Drawing

Later,
Brian

Pre-Otakon

I'm heading to Baltimore Maryland tomorrow for Otakon, the biggest anime expo on the east coast! Should be a good time. I'll be dressing up both Friday & Saturday, Saturday I will be one of the band members from the Daft Punk Film "Interstella 5555" while Amanda will be the girl from the same film. The costume for Friday is a surprise, but look for yellow.

I'll be a part of Mayshing's panel on the 2nd day of Otakon if anyone would like to come and check it out:

"How to make your own anime at home"
Saturday, July 1
8th 2009
11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Workshop 1 (BCC - Room 339-340)

I've made a bit more progress on Thesis, animated a little more and put some of it together in AfterEffects, i'm having some cameo's appear in the protest scene.

I've also made a bit more progress on the intro to "Sick & Tired of Being Sick & Tired", i've begun animating the main bit of it and from here on in there are no cuts just lots of animated camera movements.

I storyboarded the first short for The Orrick Law Firm and have actually begun animating it now, so production is actually underway.

Well off to Otakon, hope to see some of you there!

Drink and Draw Now Now!

So last night was the second day of the Now Now film festival, a local film festival put together by a friend of mine from high school where-in I had the chance to screen both of my latest animated shorts. It went pretty well, the first day was rather slow and small but the second day we filled up almost all the seats at the two screenings. I also was able to sell 6 dvds and make some cash money. I'm looking forward to the next festival.

Went to the Drink & Draw event this past Wednesday and had an excellent time. I was lucky enough draw after Bill Plympton! I was left with some breasts shooting milk into the air for his last frame, I turned that milk into missles and sent them into a Bikini Zombie face. I drew a second time and was given just a girl's chest holding a dick in one hand... seems like generally people just drew obscenities but I guess you'd expect nothing less from a bunch of animators given total freedom to draw with a bar 2 feet behind them. Well I turned that dick into a fish anyway. Spent the rest of the night hanging out with friends, was a real good time.

I got the job at the Orrick law firm, should be working two days a week now to produce their 3-4 minute animation, definitely looking forward to that.

Thumbs Up the Final Cut
is up on Veoh, everyone should check it out!

Along with the Outtakes on YouTube!

I also made some more progress on both the intro animation to my brother's documentary "sick and tired of being sick and tired" & my thesis film.

Animation Collaboration

What happens when you have 13 animators create a film together with practically no restriction other than a two day time limit and to continue where the last animator left off?

Utter chaos...

The Beginning of The End

So I actually started animating my thesis film a few days ago and while some may think it's early I can assure you for the amount of animation I need for this film, im starting right on time. There are certainly moments where I kick myself in the face for doing a 10 minute film but at the same time it's a film I feel strongly about personally and doing anything else would be selling myself short at this point. I'm experimenting with a live action sky background as you can see here, not sure if im gonna stick to that or not but right now i'm really happy with how it looks.

I also am in the process of possibly scoring an internship with an international law firm, as strange as that sounds. They are asking me to do a 2-3 minute animation for their company, it's a really exciting opportunity, I mean how many animators end up animating a short for a law firm!? It's going to have something to do with lawyers turned superheroes. Right now i'm giving them two different animation styles so they can figure out which one they want to go with, whats great is that I'm really the only animator there so I have alot of control over this project (also alot of responsibility -_-)

My girlfriend is in Turkey right now doing field research comparing fossils from turkey and greece, which is pretty sweet. I wish I could get out of this country for a few weeks, maybe not to dig up fossils that's just not my thing but just to see something new and different. But here I am stuck in Jersey surrounded by diners.

I also recently watched Lilo & Stich and The Hunchback of Notre Dame which I had never seen before surprisingly. Both were excellent and two of Disney's best films I feel, both took a non-traditinal route compared to how most Disney film's play out.

A friend of mine recently introduced me to something that I have been wanting for ages, i think all of us deep inside were longing for it... pokemon... ONLINE:

Pokemon World Online

Oh and its free!

Also im definitely going to this!
Drinking & Drawing

It's my two favorite past times wrapped into one nice package

It's funny cause me and two friends did drink and animate once in the past... the result was distrubing. If you dare to see it there is a screenshot below, BUT BE WARNED!

Drugs & Sloths

So i've been lending a hand with this Sloth web-cartoon which is incredible. First of all it has Sloths and if you aren't sold yet its really funny too, the new episode just came out (the one i helped out on). It can be seen here:

Sloth

You can see the earlier episodes here:

Sloth Vision

Also my older brother has asked me to storyboard and animate the opening to his latest documentary "Sick & Tired of being Sick & Tired". It's easily the most disturbing and fucking crazy animation I have done and am very excited about it even if it probably won't last more than fifteen seconds.

Here's the character design for the strung-out drug addict in the opening. Hope to have something put together by August when he will be screening a piece of the documentary.

I just did another voice over session with my lead guy & plan to do a finished animatic very soon. I don't plan on making any more major changes to the screenplay at this point, it's putting me back too much I just have to go with it at this point. I'm also making a documentary about the guy doing my main voice over, he's a close friend and I feel he lives a well... interesting lifestyle. It should be fun, i'll put something up on youtube when it is finished.

First Blog

Hello, first time blogger so bear with me here.

So i'd say i'm an animator second and aspiring storyteller first, here to share with you all of my failures, attempts at success, and all that stuff in between.

First of all to anyone who hasn't seen my latest animated short
"A Rusted Heart"
you can check it out here:

A Rusted Heart

Currently i'm working on my Thesis film. I had to be "that guy" and take on doing a 8 minute film thus I am doing alot of work over this summer. I've been revising the screenplay endlessly along with the storyboard and am aiming for a final animatic within a week after doing some new voice recordings due to script changes. Of course all my voice actors work for free so they all want to destroy me after asking them a third time in the past week to do a recording session.

I don't wanna show too much but here's three storyboard panels from the near end of the film in case anyone is interested.

And while i've been advised against doing a film this long I just want everyone to know I didn't choose to do a 8 minute film, i chose a story that I felt strongly about and had interest in, it just so happened I need 8 minutes to tell that story. But I promise you, not a second will be wasted.

The other day my brother and his friend got the random idea out of pure boredom to paint the walls of his room, with whatever the hell they felt like. They offered for me to have a part in it and I couldn't resist of course. Out of the chaos this was my favorite addition to the wall I made.

Thats it for now, Later
